| Day 3 of the ASM Biofilms 2003 conference was a workshop
day organized by the CBE's John Neuman. Though the event was
scheduled to start at 9 am, conferees began streaming in
before 8:30! Eighteen exhibits
stimulated discussion and interaction with
the enthusiastic attendees. |

Refreshments and tables made it easy to find a place to visit with
friends and collaborators from all over the world.
Pictured here are Thomas Neu (Germany) and Birthe Kjellerup
(Denmark). |
| Bryan Warwood, BioSurface Technologies Corp,
demonstrated biofilm reactors and flow cells. |
 |
 |
Mark Burr, CBE, demonstrated Bio-Rad software, and PCR and DGGE
hardware. Also pictured is Jennifer Sestrich, CBE. |
| Marty Hamilton, CBE, demonstrated a computer model of
biofilm growth based on CBE statistics and
experimental design. |
 |
 |
Linda Loetterle, CBE, demonstrated biofilm reactors and
flow cells. |
| Lars Larsen, Unisense (Denmark),
demonstrated microelectrodes. |
 |
 |
Rob Dunakin, Leica, organized demonstrations by the
following microscope companies.
BioRad
Leica Microsystems, Inc.
Nikon, Canada
Perkin-Elmer
Rob Palmer |
| Rod Donlan, Center for Disease Control,
demonstrated the CDC biofilm reactor. |
 |
 |
Diane Williams, Biofilm Institute (publisher of BiofilmsOnline.com) demonstrated the website and
also a proposed Biofilm Hypertextbook—a collaborative
project of the CBE and the Computer Science Department,
Montana State University. |
| Stephen Hunt and Jason Chambless, CBE, demonstrated
biofilm modeling. |
 |
 |
Kelli Buckingham-Meyer, CBE, displayed information about
biofilm methods. |
| John Neuman, CBE, was the organizer of the workshop.
Bill Costerton and workshop attendees gave him some well
deserved applause for planning and coordinating the workshop. |
