Formally, it was the Welcome Reception, but really it was a big
party to celebrate Bill Costerton's career contributions to biofilm
microbiology in academia, industry and medicine. Paul Stoodley
presented Bill with a plaque from his colleagues at the CBE.
Hillary Lappin-Scott presented Bill's career in slime and a
few "never to be forgotten" times when working with Bill.
Niels Hoiby showed us the "young
Bill" and many pictures of Bill with his red tie.
Bill
McCoy, Nalco Chemical Company and Ron Atlas, Past President,
ASM also shared stories.
Bag pipes overtook the reception
scene, announcing the entrance of the very Queen of England!
Bill was honored and knighted by
the Queen. (She got the sword play right, eventually.)
Always resourceful, PI Anne Camper used her introduction
to the Queen to investigate a new source of funding.
Peg Dirckx designed a special poster card titled
"Sticking Together" for all Bill's friends and colleagues from around the world
to sign and wish him the best.
