Bozeman -- Rocky Ross, a computer science professor at Montana State University, received the 2004 SIGACT Distinguished Service Prize from the Special Interest Group on Algorithms and Computation Theory, which is part of the Association for Computing Machinery, an international society for computing professionals.

The award recognizes service to the theoretical computer science community and Ross' news column, Education Forum in SIGACT News. In designating the award, the professional society noted that Ross' contributions to the forum have been "impeccably prepared  and infused with wit, insight, wonder and the texture of his own unique character. His ever-colorful by-line from the wilderness of Montana has become a well-loved hallmark of SIGACT News."
