CBE Interdisciplinary Glossary
"I suppose the message to take home here is that a proper multi-disciplinary collaboration always
produces results bigger and better than those produced by an individual."

EQUATION NOTATION: POTENTIAL
DIFFERENCE (V) (Compare with overpotential (E) in
Electrochemistry)
Electric potential difference V=VB-VA between any two points A and B in any medium is defined in
terms of the electric field vector, E in that medium:
V = VB - VA = SAB
E . ds
where the integral is taken along an arbitrary path connecting the points A and B, ds is an
infinitesimally small vector tangent to the path. The result is independent of the choice of the path.
