Movie Description:

Visualizing the heterogeneous pattern of protein synthetic activity in staphylococcal biofilm

alt="Your browser understands the <APPLET> tag but isn't running the applet, for some reason." Your browser is completely ignoring the <APPLET> tag!
This 7h time lapse shows the induction of a green fluorescent protein (GFP; green) in a Staphylococcus aureus biofilm. The biofilm was grown in a glass capillary tube for 24 h before the inducing agent (tetracycline) was added and the time lapse begun. The development of green color reveals regions of the biofilm in which protein synthesis is active. Flow is from top to bottom.
