2004 Outstanding Researcher Award

The 2004 Outstanding Researcher Award was presented to Linda Loetterle. This award recognizes individuals who have not only demonstrated exceptional creativity and productivity in their research, but who have also made special contributions to research life at the Center for Biofilm Engineering. (Presented June 30, 2004)

Linda is a lead laboratory specialist on Standardized Biofilm Methods research projects, including the Hot Tub Laboratory Method, the CDC Biofilm Reactor, and the Drip Flow Reactor. The results of her work have been widely disseminated. The methodologies she investigated may well become official standard methods.

Linda Loetterle
Linda is heavily involved in research education. She is co-leader of the Research Experience for Undergraduates program, coordinates the educational component of Linda Loetterle, laboratory specialist and biofilm workshop coordinator

the Biofilm Systems Training Laboratory Internship Program, and has taught most of the CBE workshops in Bozeman and elsewhere.

As the CBE Biosafety Officer, she interacts with every CBE researcher, usually as a teacher and facilitator, and occasionally as an enforcer.

The threat of bioterrorism in the US has greatly complicated the process of shipping biological materials. Linda keeps current on the rules and regulations and her efforts allow CBE researchers to receive their samples, to share bacteria strains, and otherwise to exchange biological materials with our collaborators around the world. Linda is also responsible for teaching biosafety to all new laboratory personnel at the CBE.
