Congratulations to Laura Purevdorj-Gage, recipient of the 2004 W.G. Characklis Award.

Laura's research is on the visual characterization of structure, behavior and detachment of bacterial biofilms in flowing systems.

She has run the image analysis equipment in Dr. Paul Stoodley’s laboratory for more than three years and has performed excellent microscopy. Dr. Stoodley has regarded her as a great asset both to his lab and to the CBE in general. She has collaborated with Matt Parsek at Northwestern and presented her work there as well. She has given a number of presentations at the CBE, its Technical Advisory Conferences, and the MSU microbiology department. She has also presented posters and talks at national meetings and has a number of publications to her credit.

With regard to her relationship with the CBE, Laura has always interacted with fellow students and staff in a cheerful and professional manner. Her forthcoming Ph.D. degree in microbiology will be an excellent example of the multidisciplinary professional the CBE promotes. As a culmination of her career here—which began as a very hard working undergraduate BSTL intern—Laura makes a worthy recipient of the Characklis award.
